Fern Creek Elementary School halls are bustling with students and grown-ups – not just the teachers and staff but extra grown-ups. Over 100 mentors have been trained and are meeting once a week with students one-on-one. This is the beginning of the seventh year of the Fern Creek Mentoring program and it is growing daily. |

As a School of Promise, Fern Creek has a task force overseeing its progress
in meeting the five promises: caring adults, safe places, healthy start,
marketable skills and giving to others. The Mentoring program contributes
significantly to meeting these promises. |

All of the Fern Creek Mentors are individuals in the community wishing to give of their time to make a difference in the life of a child. Many of the mentors come to the school collectively through their workplace or group affiliation, such as Glatting Jackson Kercher Anglin Lopez Rinehart; Reeves Memorial United Methodist Church; Colliers Arnold; Rollins College; Fern Creek Neighborhood Association; and Orange County Government. |

Additionally Lake Highland Preparatory School sends students from their High School over to Fern Creek two mornings a week to tutor 1st grade students in Reading. What a great example for the elementary school students of giving back to others. |
