Profile

Fern Creek Elementary School is located in the Colonial Town area of Downtown Orlando. The school was founded in 1947 with the media center and the office area renovated in 1984. A learning garden was established in 1992 in conjunction with the City of Orlando and Leu Gardens. A beautiful faculty and staff lounge/workroom was constructed in 1995. An O.C.P.S. immediate needs project at the school reconstructed roofs and the drainage system, added new carpet and paint in most of the rooms and the outside of the school in 2000-2001. The most recent addition to the site was the completion of the new kindergarten wing in July 2002. The new kindergarten classrooms provide the needed space for learning centers and adequate storage.

During the 2002-2003 school year, our enrollment averaged 390 students. Our population is culturally diverse with 55% African-American, 24% Caucasian, 13% Hispanic, 3% Asian, and 5% Other. Our ESOL program consists of two Sheltered English classes in kindergarten and first grade and ESOL certified or endorsed teachers meeting the ESOL student’s needs in the classrooms in grades two through five. The ESOL model at our school services 40 students speaking home languages other than English....
